#10PiecesOfMySoulDecks Tag
I saw this tag going around on YouTube and wanted to play. The original video tag is from the Truth in Story and you can check out that video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buNEsXpD6oQ&t=0s. This more updated version is from Lisa Papez and my response sort of more closely aligns with her video that you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP26UhL3Od0.
I love the idea of different decks representing different pieces of my soul. I am often drawn to different decks when I am in certain moods or just need the comfort those decks provide. I switched up some of the categories from the ones Lisa had to make them more fitting to me and what the pieces of my soul would be divided into.
The Spirit piece of my soul: Modern Love Tarot by Ethony Dawn
This deck is moving, relatable, diverse, and beautiful. I took it out of the box and immediately felt such a strong connection to it. I have had so many wonderful, insightful, and transforming readings with this deck. I know it will always be a part of my collection. If I could only keep one deck from my entire collection, this would be the one.
The Nostalgic piece of my soul: The Golden Girls Tarot
This deck is very similar to the traditional RWS deck, except that the Golden Girls characters are the main figures. The Golden Girls were a huge part of my childhood and I still love them very much. There are so many hidden little gems that can be found throughout the deck. When I’m feeling a bit blue, I like to pull out this deck to work with because it screams nostalgia to me and that is so very comforting. My connection to the show has only made my connection to this deck all the more strong. The Shadow piece of my soul: The Deviant Moon Tarot
This deck is not my typical aesthetic, but something drew me to it. I purchased it because I was planning to use it during spooky season. When I opened the deck, I was initially a little taken aback by some of the more graphic images. When I began actually using it though, I was shocked by how well I connected with it. The images seemed to speak to me with ease. This deck immediately became the one that I use to do shadow work, but I also use this deck for deity work. I often work with Hekate in my personal practice and this deck has been vital in helping me to form a deeper relationship with her. The Healing piece of my soul: The Little Buddha Tarot
I kickstarted this deck because I thought the images were some of the cutest things I’d ever seen (I was absolutely right about that). I received it in the mail shortly after my brother passed away. I began working with it almost exclusively in January. It has been instrumental in helping heal my soul and heart from the pain and anger I’ve experienced since his passing. I know I have quite a way through that still, and the sadness will always be there, but it has helped me with some key breakthroughs from the other feelings I’ve experienced.
As a side note, I started working with it for my version of Katey Flower’s Tarot in Practice series, where I immerse myself in a deck for two months, doing daily pulls, multiple types of spreads, and studying nuances, symbology, and my impressions of the cards in the deck. Look for the first one around the end of February!
The Social piece of my soul: Luna Sol Tarot
As Lisa Papez described it, this is the deck that sort of represents my experience of the world. It helps me to feel more connected to those around me and it is a deck I often turn to when I want to know how I can be supported by others and how I can support them in return. This deck was a random find that I bought while in Kentucky with my family. It has the diversity to really represent the world as I see it. It is just something special that I can’t put my finger on but what I can say is that I absolutely love working with it. The Nerdy piece of my soul: Game of Thrones Tarot
I am a huge nerd. I love Harry Potter (I’m listening to the film score as I type this), Xena, Game of Thrones, and a host of other amazing fandoms. I’ve read all the Game of Thrones books, watched the show (I’m, like all the other GoT fans I know, extremely disappointed with where they took the final season). When I saw the tarot deck I was immediately on board. It is really cool to use in combination with my knowledge of the. It helps to bring a different flavor to my readings in a very fun way.
The Artful piece of my soul: Elemental Wisdom Tarot
The second I opened up the box and saw The Fool I knew I was right to spend the money I did on this deck (the cost of shipping alone was very pricey!). The colors are so vibrant and expressive. They are extremely influential in the readings I do with this deck. It not only impacts the way the cards read but I also love to set cards from this deck on my altar space for reflection. Every time I look at them I just fall in love with the deck all over again. The artwork style is like that of a video game, which I know some people don't love, but I think it is stunning. The Witchy piece of my soul: Seasons of the Witch Oracle
So I’m cheating a little on this one…. The Seasons of the Witch Oracles (both Yule and Samhain) are technically two decks, but they can be used as one if you put them together. I view them as an extension of each other (I also cannot wait for the Beltane Oracle to be released!). These oracle cards don’t have to be relegated to their respective sabbats, they can be used throughout the year. I find myself continually reaching for these cards when I need some witchy wisdom and energy. The Celestial piece of my soul: Starchild Akashic
This was the first deck that I ever purchased, so in that regard, it is very special to me and will never leave my collection. I love the guidebook that comes with it as well. If I had to pick an aesthetic, it would be the art of Danielle Noel. Her dreamy pastel color palette, the digital clipart syle, and the mystical feel of each card drew me so deeply into this deck that I had to purchase it. Her guidebook was so helpful in learning how to use and read the tarot. While I wouldn't recommend this as a beginner deck, it did work for me and I think it is absolutely beautiful.
The Fantasy piece of my soul: The Mists of Avalon Oracle
When I was in my teens, I stumbled across this tv miniseries with Anjelica Huston in it. I was on a pagan path then and loved the way this show talked about magick and the goddess. It was the best "retelling" of the King Arthur story I had ever seen. I have gone back and watched it over several times since and I couldn't adore it more. I have had the Mists of Avalon series on my To Be Read list for quite some time but since getting the deck it has moved almost to the top of my list. The deck, its keywords, and the artwork are both beautiful and meaningful to me. Tell me below what you think of these decks and what yours would be! Thanks for reading!
